In order to raise funds to go towards the construction of a water filtration system for a village near Sandu, Gui Zhou, China, we organized and executed a "dry car-wash." Dry in the sense that significantly less water was used in the process, as opposed to traditional car-washes where large amounts of water are often used in excess i.e. hoses. Instead, we decided to use paper-towels, spray-on window cleaners, and reusable microfibre cloths to clean the exterior and interior of the cars; in addition to a vacuum.
The reason we decided on a dry car-wash was due to the fact that we were raising funds for the purpose of helping the underprivileged who had no clean drinking water. By wasting a copious amount of clean water, it would have been hypocritical of us to do so.
The event was ultimately profitable, with many volunteers showing up to help out. Approximately 15-20 cars came in the duration of 7 hours, with the average donation being $15.
